Straw – A Tyler Perry Film Review

By SheelaR

After three attempts, I finally managed to sit through Tyler Perry’s latest movie. Honestly, I’m not a Tyler Perry fan, but I didn’t totally hate it. The storyline had potential. However, he missed an opportunity to be more relatable to a larger audience.

The plot revolved around a struggling single black woman, which, let’s face it, is something we’ve seen a million times from him. I get why some women have issues with his films; they often lean heavily on the same tropes. Instead of the same old narrative, it would have been refreshing to see a story focused on a married, middle-class mom dealing with a mental health crisis after the loss of a child. That could resonate with so many people too and offer a different perspective.

While he has got his style, it feels like he could diversify his characters and their struggles a bit more. A new angle could really elevate the conversation and connect with a broader audience. It would be nice to see some different stories coming from him.

Maybe he’ll call me before his next film, I have ideas.

Peace,

SheelaR ☺️
